Day 8: 10km cycle and Chest session

What a glorious weekend it’s been!

The sun has been shining, and my boyfriend and I have had one of the best weekends of the year, just hanging out, pottering around and staying active.

Yesterday we went for a cycle around Clapham Common, which felt pretty leisurely but ended up being 6 miles long. We went home, showered, changed and went out for lunch and a bit of a shop and a stroll which let us stay out in the sun for as long as possible.

The day went a bit sideways when we stopped at the new icecream place (sorry, “dessert lounge”) on the high street on the way back from lunch and essentially ate their entire supply, and then ordered our favourite thai food for dinner which it turned out neither of us really needed or wanted. It’s probably the first time we’ve ever not come even close to finishing it, and it’s ruined massaman for me for a while. Which, thinking about it, is probably a very, very good thing.

Today we waited for a brief rain shower to stop and then went out for another cycle, where something MIRACULOUS happened.

Lets be straight: I’m terrified of cycling on the road. Like, petrified. I’m convinced I’ll end up mangled under a car or squashed by a lorry or something, and I freak out and forget how to cycle. But today, oh glorious day, I cycled all the way up the high street, navigated a few junctions, and then all the way home. To anyone else, thats a simple daily occurrence. To me, it was something pretty special. I’m still grinning about it now. Yes, I’m 24. No, I’m not embarrassed.

After another 10km cycle (and a little stop to lie on a bench at our favourite spot on the Common and just hang out together) we rode to the gym and fitted in another chest workout. As we arrived, I noticed a familiar face on one of the tv screens and ran over to catch the end of my brother’s (now almost daily) spot on BBC news before bashing out our weights session. My strength was better today than on Friday, which is reassuring.
